Hola, Beauty Babes!
I've recently been having a lot of fun testing out several new products from Lulu The Face Company and wanted to share my experience. If you haven't read my Beauty Review: Lulu The Face Company post, be sure to check that out after this. They have a liquid lipstick formula that's amazingly comfortable!
Before I get into the review, here's a list of the products I've been playing with and the price breakdown.
The first product I tried was their Vivacious
Natural Vegan Lip Color. As soon as I saw the word 'vegan' I jumped at it to see what it looked and felt like. The beauty industry is seriously lacking attentiveness to this growing niche market, so it's exciting to be able to share an option that not only looks pretty but feels pretty too (from the inside out).
This particular shade, from the 5 available, is one anyone can easily pull off and would suit just about any occasion. But the way it feels on the lips is like nothing I've felt before. Ingredients like organic jojoba and grapeseed oils have this feeling like buttah! That's 2-for-2 now in the lip department. Both lip products I've tried from the brand are incredibly nourishing and hydrating. You can clearly feel the quality good-for-you ingredients.
Now here's a product I'm not so sure I've gotten the hang of yet but has been fun to try. The
Stuck On You Eyeliner Fixative is a viscous clear liquid that's meant to be used with their pressed mineral eyeliners to help with longevity and keep it from smudging. In my experience, it added an impressive depth and fluidity to the Pressed Cake Eyeliner, making it really smooth and pigmented, but I still experienced smudging toward the end of the day. That's unfortunate, but the real kicker is just how well shimmering and foiled shadows perform on your lids when using this. I take a small amount on a flat synthetic brush and dip directly into the shadow. It's like a heavy duty Fix+! It makes shadows pop and stick, intensifying your eye look.
My only major concern was after using the fixative directly in the Pressed Caked Eyeliner pan. After the solution had dried down, it left behind a hard layer over top, which I'll show in an image below. Maybe I applied too much, but the eyeliner seemed to need that much in order to work for me.
After drying down, it worked perfectly fine when you use it with the fixative solution again, but this is definitely something to consider if you're going to use this with a favorite shadow. I'd highly recommend using it with loose pigments, though. That would work beautifully.
The new Eye & Face palette includes a shimmering champagne eye base called their
Eyelights Shadow Primer in the shade Spot Light. Truth be told, I like to use this as a cream highlight on my face as well, especially when I saw that it includes Hibiscus Esculentus Complex, an all natural vegetable derived alternative to botox. When used on the eyes, it's meant to improve the appearance of wrinkles by 26% in just 21 days!
The eye primer does a great job at providing a tacky base for shadows to build upon and intensify. I'm compelled to say that most skin types would find it easy to wear on its own, but on my oily lids, I definitely need to layer a powder shadow over top to set it. Because of its hydrating properties, I noticed the base peeking through later in the day which can give a really pretty shimmering effect, but that may not always be the look you're going for so just keep that in mind if you have oily lids too. Any powder shadow or pigment with a similar undertone, like their mineral shadow in Chablis, looks great over top.
Holy pigmentation! The
Mineral Powder Blush in Spellbound is
SO good! Possibly my favorite product this round. It's a rosy-mauve shade that's so on-trend right now. My favorite part is the glow it leaves behind. It's a very natural sheen that pulls through, tying your makeup look together beautifully. The shade, again, is very versatile and can easily go from day to night.
A little goes a long way with this product, though, so be careful. This can take some getting used to if you have a heavy hand like me, but the way it blends into your cheeks makes it very easy to use and wear. I also use this as an eyeshadow! As if it couldn't get any better, this blush lasts all day long, folks. I love this!
- Rose Gold is a smooth shimmer which performs on the eye true to its name, a rosy golden-bronzed hue.
- Chablis is an opaque peach shade with a stunning golden shift. I'd peg this formula as creamy satin shimmer. Of all the shadows, I think this is the softest–most 'Silk' like–to the touch. You can definitely use this shade on its own, it's pigmented enough, but I strongly recommend using it over top the Eyelights base or with Stuck On You fixative to really make it pop. It creates such a pretty effect!
- The last three are matte shades, starting with Malt, a mid-toned brown with a yellow undertone. The beauty about this shade is that it pairs great with neutral or rosy toned eye looks. Great transition crease shade.
- Stormy Weather really surprised me! I thought this was going to be a chalky light gray but I was so wrong. This shade has an ashy plum hue that looks amazing built up in the crease–especially with brown eyes. It's now one of my favorites in the palette!
- The last of the matte shadows is the shade Wine which is a reddish-brown shade. These are my personal favorite kinds of brown as they pull warmth from brown eyes and can make green or blue eyes pop with minimal effort. Super pretty, but I do wish it was slightly softer and more pigmented.
Across the board, the shadows are easy to blend but do take some building up for full pigmentation. The matte shades are on the drier side but aren't particularly choppy or difficult to work with. It's a well-curated set of shade selections and I reckon most would find them easy to work with, regardless of skill level. I recommend using synthetic bristled eye brushes for maximum color payoff and dampening your brush when using the shimmering shades.
Also important to note is that the Silky Pressed Mineral Shadows are formulated without the use of talc, fragrance, or other common skin irritants. Perfect for those with sensitive eyes or skin.
The last product is their
Pressed Cake Eyeliner, in the shade Black Violet. In comparison to their matte shadow formula, this is slightly drier and tightly pressed into the pan. It works great as an eyeliner paired with Stuck On You fixative and a synthetic angled brush. When wet, I was able to easily draw a crisp, pigmented line across my lashline. When dry, it can be built up to a smokey liner. The blueish tone adds a unique twist that worked nicely with the shade selection in the palette. I also enjoyed using this as a dry shadow to anchor my crease or smoke the eye out.
Another great selection of products from
Lulu The Face Company! The prices are a little steeper than I'd expect, but when you're looking for quality ingredients, anti-aging properties and attention to detail, it seems fair.
I'd love to see some more packaging developments in the future to really justify the price and turn heads. I don't particularly have an issue with it, but I'd expect others would shy away from trying the brand because it doesn't look as developed, at a glance. Do not let this fool you! Especially with their lip products, and how could I forget that blush? I have major heart eyes for these two product categories in particular, but I think they have a pretty solid thing going here. I'm rooting for them!
