Hiya, Beauty Babes! :)
Today's review is on the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Primer ($14) which I have been dying to try. The primer is a new addition to the One Heck of a Blot family which currently holds 3 products in the range: The primer, foundation, and of course the product that started it all–their infamous face powder. You can purchase the primer and additional S&G cosmetics and body products on drugstore.com or the full One Heck of a Blot range at Ulta Beauty stores and website.
In true S&G fashion, this primer has some bold claims that include keeping you matte for 12hrs, reducing pore visibility, makes makeup last longer, and reduces redness just to name a few. Who wouldn't want to try this after reading that?

The product has a very faint scent that completely fades away upon working it into the skin. It's formula is a medium weight glycerin based cream/balm hybrid that gives just enough time to be worked into the skin before being absorbed. This is not a primer that dries and pills up as you work it in, but rather an option that fills in and softens the appearance of fine lines, pores, and minor imperfections. Essentially, it leaves a smoother canvas for makeup to lay overtop.
Upon first impression, I seriously could not be happier with my results. It definitely needs to be worked in with a little more TLC over troubled areas with larger pores for the full effect, so keep that in mind. After a little elbow grease and pressing it into the skin, it left my skin with a noticeable difference. My pores were definitely less visible and fine smile lines around my face were smoothed over as if using the blur tool in Photoshop!
I was also able to cut back on the amount of product I used on my face after that as well. Without priming, I typically use about 2 pumps worth of foundation to achieve desired coverage, but with this primer I need use only one pump and minimal concealer.

The trouble for me started when after a few hours of wear time (about 3), I was starting to get oily! Noooooooo! Sadly, no matter how I use the primer or with which foundation, it is no match for my oily skin. The flawless finish upon initial application starts to diminish and before you know it, pores are visible too (4-5 hr. mark). With all of that said, I almost feel like the initial application is worth later results. Strange, I know….
Not only does this primer stretch liquid/cream products exponentially, but it also allows for powder products to really cling to your skin without losing color intensity all. day. long. At the end of the day, my blush and bronzer look just as good as when freshly applied (minus the oil, of course).
My personal recommendation would be for those with dry (moisturize beforehand), normal, and combo skin types. The smoothing properties and minor oil control would allow for these skin types to reap the benefits of the glycerin content in this product. If you like the Nivea Men's Post Shave Balm, MAC Fix+, or Make Up For Ever Skin Equalizers, this may be a product you'd like to try. Oily girls looking for something to really smooth out lines and pores for a short amount of time may also be interested.
Bottom line, I think despite the lack of oil control, I'm going to get some really good use out of this and would definitely repurchase again. It's a shame the primary reason I picked it up didn't work out, but it unveiled a hidden weapon in my arsenal for a different purpose. I'm a big believer that most products have a time and place where they truly shine.
Thanks for reading, Loves :) Hit me up with any questions or product suggestions you have. Have a fab day and speak soon!
♥ xoxo
