I found the foundation to be pretty easy to work with, love the pump, and the shade I purchased was a nice match. It definitely has medium to full coverage and feels comfortable on the skin, leaving a dewy finish behind. Oh…and there's a slight fragrance that actually made me chuckle quite a bit because it smells like applesauce!
Initially, I jumped around trying to compare this foundation to others I had used such as the
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation because of the consistency and scent, and the
Make Up For Ever HD Foundation because of the flawless finish and how it wore throughout the day. In the end, I think this foundation needs a category of its own. Let me explain…

One pump of product. |

heavy viscosity/not runny. |
At the jump, this was gorgeous to work with because it really gave some buildable coverage with a natural finish that was borderline dewy. Other products seemed to lay perfectly overtop and there were no issues there, regardless of them being cream or powder. My makeup looked really nice, if I do say so myself, and this love affair was off to a good start!
Throughout the day, I began to feel the actual product on my face weighing down and as soon as I looked in the mirror it was extremely clear that it was not the product itself that was heavy, but that the foundation had no oil control. I was a complete grease ball at my 5 hour check-in. No biggie, I'd jus try the foundation again the next day with my holy grail combo --
Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector &
Urban Decay De-Slicked Setting Spray -- a powerful combination that's been able to anchor even the dewiest of foundations in the past.
Day 2 got off to an even better start as I needed less than 2 pumps of foundation to get a complete full coverage look that looked even more bomb.com than day 1! SO stoked, I was confident in my priming power couple that today was going to be the day that I could show everyone just how amazing this foundation really was.
…that would be a negative. lol that didn't happen at all! I was just as much of a grease ball at the 5 hour check-in that I was the previous day. Baffled, I blotted my face and proceeded to fix and powder set my makeup again. This definitely helped with oil control, but who's got time to be powdering all day? Not this girl!
Though I was oily, on neither day (primer or not), did I have issues with my blush/bronzer or other additional products lose pigmentation. In fact, they looked pretty dang good even at the end of the day! It's only the oil control that I have issues with. I wish they would have marketed this product with warning terminology such as "hydrating" "dewy" "luminous" so that those of us that have had this issue were at the very least prepared.
At this point, it seemed hopeless to get it to work for me until my little light bulb turned on.
A-ha! There was just one more thing I could try…
Indeed Laboratories Nanoblur is an interesting product that works under or over (ahem..don't try that! It's horrible over makeup) liquid foundation to really lock it in tight and minimize pores. This sucker actually worked! I typically only wear this on no makeup days or under powder foundations since it tends to be too dry for liquids to apply smoothly overtop. Nanoblur kept the Milani foundation in place with hardly any oil seeping through at the end of the day.

Sigma Flat Top Kabuki brush is my favorite way to apply the foundation. |
Below are a few pics to demonstrate the way the foundation wears:

My hopes with this review are to warn my fellow oily girls and encourage my dry/normal babes to give this one a shot. All in all, this is a gorgeous foundation, but just doesn't cut it for oily skin types like yours truly unless you've got some heavy duty products in your corner. If you have dry to normal skin (even aging skin), I'd definitely encourage you to pick this up as it's truly got some great coverage that works well with other products. It glides right over dryer patches as well.
If after reading this you think you're a good match, there are so many beautiful reasons to pick this up. Oily Mamas, you have been warned.
