Dupe or Dud: The Dirty Details of Generic Clarisonic Brush Heads

Hola, Beauty Babes!
We're all on a quest to find our next holy grail beauty product and it's even better when we can find it at a great deal. I get so excited to share a great affordable dupe that will save us some money, but occasionally I experience product duds that do more damage than good.

In my August Empties I talked about a brush head for my Clarisonic which I purchased through Groupon here and how it did not work out for me. Time to keep it real and share my experience!

REVIEW

At first glance, the fact that these brush heads are just $9.99 for a set of 2 is an amazing deal considering the original is more than double that for just 1! They look so similar on website images that I just had to try them out.

The main reason why I wanted to dedicate a full post about this product is because I had a very adverse skin reaction to it. I, like always, cleansed the brush head thoroughly 2x with warm water and a gentle face cleanser to ensure that no production debris or chemicals are going to touch my skin. I noticed that because the bristles are longer and denser in this version, it was pulling my skin a bit more than what I was used to. I could still feel the sonic waves taking effect, but at a lesser degree which was also irritating since that's the whole point of owning a Clarisonic! I also noticed that when toning my face, I was still pulling away impurities from my skin after cleansing which made me question what this product was actually doing for my skin. At this point, all I could conclude was that the new brush head didn't pick up as much as the original and therefore less effective.

I continued use as normal, which for me is about once a week, and started noticing that my skin began to break out into small and large blemishes, almost like a rash. It was also causing my skin to itch and and become inflamed which was not fun in the slightest. I can sometimes have irritated skin, but this was definitely on another level. After re-evaluating my skincare, I stopped use immediately because I realized it was the only new item I was using at the time which low key tore me up inside. I so badly wanted this to work out! Slowly but surely my skin began to heal and settle down after about 3 weeks of little makeup and really consistent soothing skincare.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Upon taking a closer look to the brush head, I noticed that the bristle tips aren't as frayed or 'worn' looking as the head on a new Clarisonic brush and I wonder if that's the main culprit? My best guess is that the bristles, being so tightly packed, are so much more abrasive on the skin and that they are not able to cleanse or dry as sanitary after use either. It literally felt like thousands of tiny abrasions on my face, so if you have sensitive skin I'd go running the other way! I feel like this brush head is better suited for thicker, tougher skin on the body and not for delicate skin on or around the face.

Hope this was helpful to any of you looking to purchase! Like I said before, just because it didn't work for me won't mean that it won't for you, but it's always good to do your research from various sources to get a better idea :)

As always, I'm curious to know if any of you have tried these brush heads and if they worked for you. For me, I've definitely learned my lesson and am sticking to Clarisonic brush heads from now on even if they are more expensive. Big lesson learned that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

♥ xoxo
