Beauty Review: Maybelline Superstay Better Skin

Maybelline released their new Better Skin line this summer and it's been all the rage lately on social media. Like many of you, I was really curious to see what all of the fuss was about. If you're thinking about picking up these products, you might want to read some reviews first. Here are my thoughts based on my personal experience with these products.
Hope it helps!

The line consists of a concealer and foundation with the claim "improves skin every minute you're in it" showing benefits in approximately 3 weeks, according to the Maybelline website. The formula contains added antioxidant Actyl-C (vitamin c), an ingredient meant to improve skin's overall appearance by brightening and visually softening pigmentation spots and dullness.

You can purchase these two newbies at any local drugstore or your preferred online carrier. The foundation comes in 12 different shades, setting you back $11.99 and the concealer comes in 6 shades at $8.99 at Ulta, or at $9.98 and $7.82 at Walmart.

(Pssssst! Ulta is currently having a buy one, get one 50% off on Maybelline products!)

It's frustrating at best to know if products from the drugstore are worth the investment when you're not able to test them in store or are shopping online. Here's a list of pros and cons based on my experience with them that may be helpful in deciding whether or not to pick up the pair.

My experience with the concealer hasn't been horrible, but it's definitely not close to being a favorite. I had high hopes, it sounded amazing! I'd personally choose the Maybelline Fit Me concealer over this product, but am looking forward to attempting to make it work out.

If you've gotten this concealer to work for you, please let me know any tips/tricks that've helped you along. I'd love to know :)

  • Hydrating
  • Smoothing
  • Easy to work with
  • Comes with a pump!! Huge selling point, I was so excited.
  • Medium, buildable coverage (1 pump for light coverage, 2 pumps medium coverage)
  • Dries to a satin finish
  • Leaves skin looking healthy and flawless, minimizing the appearance of pores. I was floored the first time I used it!
  • Lightweight, comfortable to wear.
  • Contains a physical sunscreen! Titanium Dioxide, broad spectrum SPF 15. This is super exciting for us that have a reaction to chemical sunblock, Oxybenzone or Avobenzone.
  • Not 100% sure if it was this foundation or my skincare kicking in, but I did notice an improvement in my skin's overall appearance. My complexion seemed brighter and more even.
  • Ideal for someone with normal skin; I think it'd last on a lot better on you.
  • Easy to find

  • Cost. Again, comparing the Better Skin Foundation at a whoppin' $11.99 to the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation for $7.99 (Ulta prices)…that just seems like a big jump for the drugstore.
  • Longevity. As much as I tried pulling aces out of my sleeve with this one, I just couldn't get it to last on me. By midday I'd see oil peeking through, but by the evening I looked like an oil slick beyond the point of no return. I have to touch up several times more throughout the day (in comparison to the Mate + Poreless I mentioned above).
  • Creasing. Again, just like the concealer, this product tends to settle into fine lines. It's a really interesting formula because it sets, blurring skin's imperfections, then as the day goes on will start to separate.

Before & After
…err…After & Before
As you can see, I was able to achieve a decent amount of coverage using 2 pumps of foundation, hiding blemishes and hyper pigmentation easily enough. The pair created an even canvas for the rest of my makeup application without looking cakey, which I love. It truly gave me the appearance of 'Better Skin'.

In terms of longevity, I did have issues with creasing around my eyes shortly after application as mentioned in my review. This face lasted about 4 hours before I started to see pores peek through, needing a minor powder touch up. By hour 5 I noticed oil coming through, and by the 6th hour it had a major breakdown around my T-Zone. Bear in mind that I do have an oily skin and that it most likely will last much longer on you who have other skin types.

Based on my experience, I'd say try the foundation if you're keen on testing the line. I'm really interested to see how this foundation holds up on my oily skin during the cooler months, but for now I may need to use it on days I know I won't need hardcore lasting power.

As always, thanks so much for reading! If you've picked these up, I'm really interested to hear your thoughts. I've been reading a lot of different feedback about the two products, so let me know what your experience has been.

♥ xoxo
